Our first job of 2012 was a fun one — working with Lower-Sixth Aquinas College students to deliver some workshops that would spark their interest in typography and enable them to generate better ideas for their projects.
We took a big stack of books from the studio along with us to provide a bit of inspiration and encouraged them to create with their hands and heads instead of computer mice. Though a bit uncomfortable at first, the typographic brief prompted students to produce beautiful and considered responses, improvised with found materials. The ideas generation brief was a surprise for us, as it usually takes a little longer to understand fully, but the students took to it quickly and energetically sketched out nearly triple the amount of ideas we asked for.
The newly built, state of the art campus was a lovely environment to spend time in and we really enjoyed working with the staff and students there. Hopefully we will be able to go back and visit sometime in the near future.
